Will the Kingdom rule once more or will the Tribesmen emerge victorious from another battle? This afternoon in Croke Park, Kerry and Galway go head-to-head in the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

Kerry, beaten by Dublin in the 2015 final and again in 2019 after a replay, will be hoping to win the Sam Maguire Cup for the first time since they defeated Donegal in the 2014 decider.

For Galway, their wait extends back to the 2001 campaign when they became the first team to win via the ‘back-door’ in what was the first year of the Qualifier series.

Pádraic Joyce was a key member of the Galway team who won All-Ireland titles in 1998 and 2001 and he has led the Tribesmen back to the biggest day of the season.

Galway gained promotion from Division Two earlier in the campaign, but were pipped by Roscommon in the final and they are aiming to become the first team since Armagh in 2002 to win the All-Ireland from the second tier.

Much of the attention ahead of today’s game centres around how Galway will try and halt David Clifford’s influence on the game while Kerry will have their hands full with Damien Comer and Shane Walsh.

The potential match-ups are fascinating while Joyce will engage in a battle of wills along the sideline with Jack O’Connor who is seeking to win a fourth All-Ireland title in his third stint in charge of Kerry.

Today’s All-Ireland final brings the curtain down on a memorable Championship season and the last act could be a thriller. We’ll have all the latest build-up, team news and score-by-score updates right here. . .

Team news – Galway

Galway manager Pádraic Joyce has also named an unchanged team from their semi-final win over Ulster champions Derry.

Cathal Sweeney returns to the squad after serving a one-match ban for his part in the melee in the quarter-final win over Armagh last month while Antrim native Owen Gallagher is also included among Galway’s substitutes.

There is a rumour that Finnian Ó Laoí could be drafted in from the start for the Tribesmen. . .
